The Best Desserts in Paris

The Best Desserts in Paris

Ah, Paris. For those with a sweet tooth, or even those without, this city is seriously filled with great dessert spots. From pastries, sweets, and savory snacks, here are some of the places not to miss on your quest to find the best desserts in Paris!

Laduree

There’s a reason why this famous macaron place is a household name and now has branches all over the world! Their macarons are firm, flavorful, and varied. I recommend getting a box and trying their caramel, orange blossom, coffee, pistachio, and rose petal – so good!

There are tons of other desserts to choose from, but for those without a sweet tooth, Laduree also serves great food too if you’re looking for a brunch/lunch spot (try their omelette with truffles or any sort of pastry).

For those looking for a gift to take home (or for that special someone), did you know Laduree has their own Laduree Macaron book and Laduree recipe cookbook?

Pierre Herme

Laduree’s main competitor, Pierre Herme’s macarons are lighter and more subtle in taste, the delicate desserts tantalizing your sense of smell. Their classic rose flavor is incredibly fragrant, mogador (milk chocolate and passion fruit) is not to be missed, and they also carry unique seasonal flavors such as white truffle and foie gras.

Though the place specializes in macarons, Pierre Herme also has mouth-watering desserts. I had perhaps the best chocolate mousse cake of my life there.

Not surprisingly, Pierre Herme has authored a number of cookbooks — they reveal his most scrumptuous recipes, and are the perfect gift!

Berthillon ice cream

A household name in Paris, Berthillon is a manufacturer and retailer of luxury ice cream and sorbets! Their main store actually lies on the Ile Saint-Louis, one of the two natural islands in the Seine. With numerous tasty flavors, the only advice I have is to make sure you top your ice cream off with chantilly (whipped cream.) Berthillon offers two flavors — vanilla and raspberry.

Amorino gelato

A popular spot in Paris, Amorino was actually created in 2002 by two Italians and now has branches all over the world. They make high quality gelato as naturally as possible with no artificial colors or flavors, and shape each gelato scoop as a rose petal to form a flower cone! Great on a hot summer day.

La Creperie de Josselin

A well known creperie specializing in — you guessed it — crepes! There’s a wonderful homey atmosphere, and an abundance of sweet and savory crepes to choose from. I recommend anything with nutella or the specialty crepe with egg, bacon and creme fraiche is amazing!

Pain au chocolat

You cannot come to Paris without tasting an authentic chocolate croissant, and you’ll be surprised what you find in little corner bakeries. Try visiting in the mornings, when they have freshly come out of the oven. There is nothing better than a perfectly flaky croissant!

I’m a huge fan of macarons and I always get them when I’m in St. Martin. There’s also a french bakery in Charlotte that has pretty good macarons – not as good as the ones on the French side of St. Martin, but they will do. I long to visit Paris and try all the desserts you’ve mentioned here. Yum!
